Chesapeake Outdoor Group’s

Eastport Oktoberfest and Beer Can Regatta

To Benefit Back Creek Conservancy

Saturday, September 24, 2016

The Chesapeake Outdoor Group (COG) is proud to announce the 1st Annual Eastport Oktoberfest and Beer Can Regatta.  Skippers and spectators are welcome to attend this fun charity event under the Big Tent at Eastport Democratic Club on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

The Event

This regatta allows skippers to exercise their ingenuity in creating the fastest model sailing yacht from common items and at least one empty beer can  To ensure fair competition, all boats must be able to fit within the provided 5 gallon “bucket”. All boats will be measured and examined for compliance prior to racing.

Competitors may elect to sail in the following classes (subject to approval by the race committee, and minimum number of eight entries per class):

  • One Design Sport Class (must use materials supplied and use 2 intact provided cans in constructions)
  • Grand Prix (Very few rules almost - outside materials allowed).
  • Sponsor Challenge (for local businesses, various sponsorship levels available)

Sport class entrants will receive buckets and the materials with which to build their boats at the Skippers’ Meeting on Saturday, September 17, 2016 to be held at the Eastport Democratic Club (See Below).  Additionally, class rules and sailing instructions will be presented and reviewed.  It is strongly recommended all competitors attend to learn about the rules concerning this year’s regatta.

Racing will be conducted in a “round robin” format, allowing all competitors in a class to race one another and participate in multiple races.  Class winners will be determined by the best score across all races.  The Grand Prix class winner will have the skipper and boat name engraved on the perpetual trophy hosted by the Boatyard Bar and Grill and will be awarded the coveted Beach Cruiser bike. Other prizes will be awarded to the top competitors.
