PRESS RELEASE

4th Annual COG 12 Oz.Regatta

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The ChesapeakeOutdoor Group (COG) is pleased to announce the 4th Annual 12 Oz.Regatta formerly known as the “Build a Beer Can Boat Regatta” to benefit the Annapolis Maritime Museum.  The regatta will be held at Port Annapolis Marina in Annapolis on Saturday August 11, 2007 from Noon until 5:00 p.m.  Entrants will begin racing their home-made can boats at noon. A post race party will begin after racing and continue until 9:00 p.m. with live music provided by The Geckos.  Food and drink  are included all day with admission.  The racing and party is rain or shine.  Proceeds from the event and raffle will be donated to Annapolis Maritime Museum to assist with the museum’s rebuilding efforts.

The 12 Oz. Regatta involves competitors building boats that are raced in a pool built by COG specifically for the event.  In order to race, competitors purchase a COG provided five-gallon bucket stocked with a 6 pack of beer (root beer is used for the kids class) and miscellaneous contents that can be used for building the boats.  Competitors must use at least one 12 oz. can in building their boats and only use the contents provided in the bucket. The boat must fit back in the bucket immediately prior to racing.  Racing involves four classes competing for trophies and prizes including the “Root Beer Class” (Kids 8-12), the Racer-Cruiser Class (for the amateur builder), the Grand Prix Class (the hardcore racer class) and the Industry Challenge Class (maritime related business).  Prizes are given for the fastest boat, the crowd favorite and judges’ choice award.

The regatta is limited to 40 boats so early registration is recommended.  Cost to enter is $25.00 for the Root Beer Class.  Entries for the Grand Prix and Racer-Cruiser Class are $40.00 before August 6, 2007 and $50.00 thereafter.  Entry for the Industry Class is $300.00 with special recognition of each business during and after racing.  Spectators are welcome to watch the racing and attend the after party for a $25.00 donation.  Food and drink is provided for all racers and spectators.  All donations and entry fees are tax deductible.

COG is soliciting regatta sponsors, raffle donations and volunteers to assist with the regatta.  For further information, please contact president@chesapeakeoutdoor.org or Ron Katz at 410-533-1542.  For further information about the regatta or about COG please visit www.chesapeakeoutdoor.org.   COG is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to ‘philanthropy and fun’ around the Chesapeake region and has received much recognition for its volunteering efforts.
